Rongoā Māori Healing

For more than 25 years, Kura Waka has maintained a close relationship with Māori healers from Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Through years of training, exchange and friendship, Michaela has been privileged to learn from respected elders and healers including Te Waimatao Oriwia Maharata Tiaki Turoa, Manu Korewha and Ruatau Perez.

The individual healing sessions offered at Kura Waka are inspired by these traditional teachings and by decades of experience working with people through bodywork, ceremony and healing.

What Can You Expect?

Your session begins with arriving.

Not rushing in from the outside world, but taking a moment to land.

The session takes place in the Dome Auditorium, a unique circular space with a dome-shaped ceiling, soft acoustics and the warmth of the fire nearby.

After a short conversation, you are invited to lie down on the treatment table.

From there, the work begins.

Each session is different.

Sometimes the treatment is gentle and quiet.

Sometimes Michaela works more deeply into muscles, connective tissue and areas where tension has been stored for a long time.

The body sets the pace.

There is nothing to perform.
Nothing to achieve.

Only space to listen to what is present.

Romiromi & Mirimiri Bodywork

The sessions may include elements of Romiromi and Mirimiri.

Romiromi is a traditional Māori form of deep tissue bodywork that works with muscles, connective tissue, breath and the deeper layers held within the body.

Mirimiri is often more subtle.

Working through intuition, presence and awareness, it supports the body in restoring its own balance.

Together, these approaches create a treatment that is both grounding and deeply restorative.

Stress Release & Nervous System Restoration

Many people come to Kura Waka carrying stress, fatigue, overwhelm or physical tension.

Others arrive at a crossroads in life, seeking clarity, rest or simply a moment to reconnect with themselves.

Through conscious touch, deep bodywork and presence, the body is invited into a state of relaxation where tension can soften and the nervous system can settle.

People often leave feeling:

  • lighter
  • calmer
  • more grounded
  • more connected to their body
  • clearer in their mind

Not because something was added.

But because for a moment, everything unnecessary could fall away.

A Place to Slow Down

What makes these sessions different is not only the treatment itself.

It is the space around it.

The warmth of the fire.

The stillness of the Dome.

The time to arrive.

The time to stay afterwards with a cup of tea if you wish.

No rushing.

No waiting room full of appointments.

Just a place where you can slow down enough to listen to yourself again.
